This First Australian Earth System Outlook Conference, open to all, will explore a range of major Earth system issues that are directly pertinent to Australia. Delegates will hear both the science behind the issues and stakeholder perspectives on information needs for addressing them.
The Australia-focussed Earth system issues to be addressed are drawn from The Australian plan to develop a science of the contemporary Earth system that is under development by the National Committee for Earth System Science for the Australian Academy of Science.
Topics that will be covered include issues of regional climate change, sustainable food production, national water resources, biodiversity decline, land use planning and land tenure, sea-level rise repercussions, ocean acidification issues, human health, geo-engineering options, low C energy futures, and human population size. These topics will be dealt with by a keynote presentation followed by brief responses by speakers holding different views from the main speaker and open discussion.
